Having Trouble Maintaining Productivity While Working From Home? We Feel You.
Everybody thinks working from home would be the best thing ever. No exaggeration. I’ve heard many people exclaim things like, “You wouldn’t even have to change out of your pajamas!” or “You get to make your own schedule!” whenever I bring up the topic. Yeah, those sound like great benefits in theory, but for some of us, those “luxuries” can cause a great lack of motivation and productivity. Here are three tips to help keep you on track when you’re enjoying working from home a little too much …
- Stick to a schedule.
Working from home takes some discipline. It’s really easy to sleep in a few extra minutes, take an extra long lunch break, or put things off until the last minute. Trust me, you do not want to miss the premiere of your favourite show just because you didn’t put in your hours during the workday. If you’re only temporarily stuck at home, try keeping with the same routine you follow in the office. If you’ve jumped into the work-from-home lifestyle, put together a schedule that works for you and stick to it.
- Put together a designated work space.
This can be a tricky one, especially if you’re not planning to be working from home for long. We recommend keeping this workspace separate from places you relax—ideally, you shouldn’t be able to see your computer from your bed (trust me, it makes getting out of bed really tough!).
- Ditch the PJ’s.
Pajamas are for sleeping, not working … I’m not saying don’t dress comfortably, you can totally rock those sweatpants! It’s all about creating a routine like we previously mentioned. Getting changed is part of getting ready for the day, and helps your mind recognize the transition between sleeping and productivity.
