Beacon High Five to Gjenge Makers!.

Beacon believes in the power of collective efforts to create a sustainable future. Such work deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated!

That is why we are introducing the Beacon High Five Badge—to appreciate organizations in the sustainability and social justice sectors for their exceptional work toward building a better future. The badge is a symbol of our appreciation for their efforts and commitment to creating a sustainable world.

We proudly present our first Beacon High Five Badge to Gjenge makers!

Nzambi Matee, the founder of Gjenge Makers, is smiling and holding up a brick made out of plastic. A Beacon Design Collective high-five badge appears to the right.

Gjenge Makers, led by Nzambi Matee, is a Kenyan social enterprise that repurposes discarded plastic into paving blocks and bricks. The start-up has recycled over 100 tonnes of plastic waste, creating affordable and eco-friendly building materials that are stronger, cheaper, and lighter than concrete.

Not only has Gjenge Makers contributed to reducing plastic waste in landfills, but it has also created over 100 jobs for garbage collectors, women, and youth groups, supporting both livelihoods and the environment! This is a true testament to the power of social entrepreneurship and sustainability.

If you know any organization that deserves a High-five badge, please let us know. We would love to hear from you. Send us your suggestions to high-five@beaconcollective.com.
