Job description

Designer/illustrator.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic designer and illustrator who seeks inspiration everywhere and can help us level up our work with one or more parallel skills (e.g. pattern making, brush making, mastery of textures, certificate in accessibility, second language, web design skills, font making experience, etc.).

Experience and qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 3+ years experience as a designer illustrator, agency experience an asset 
  • Accessible design certification an asset
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud apps: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Xd
  • Familiarty with project managment software

What we’re offering

Compensation (hourly)

  • We base our compensation on industry standards and anticipate paying between $30 and $37 per hour (to start), based on experience.

Commitment

Hours per week

This is a permanent full time position that will be paid hourly. We are looking for 30-40 hours of your time each week and allow flexible start and end times. 

Availability

While we do have flexible start and end times, and our mandatory overlap is limited to 9:00 a.m. PST to 1:00 p.m. PST Monday through Thursday. 

Time off

We are closed between December 24 and January 2 annually. We are also closed on all statutory holidays. We start folks at two weeks of paid time off plus five sick days, along with birthdays off with pay. 

Overtime and after hours work

We have an averaging agreement in place with our full-time employees in order that they may work longer days Monday through Thursday and finish early on Fridays. If we get to the interview stage we can explain this policy more clearly for you.

Where you’ll work

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You will work from home on a company computer.

Key responsibilities

  • Own your deliverables, while keeping the team informed
  • Mentor and teach your colleagues skills you may possess and they do not 
  • Design and edit documents, powerpoints, etc, as requested by management and/or the clients
  • Illustrate scenes, figures, backgrounds, textures and patterns to styles called for by the creative brief
  • Be detail oriented, double check all of your work
  • Use industry standard software from the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Learn any new software as required by management
  • Research inspiration as needed
  • Find and edit royalty free photographs, including close-cropping and coming up with cool filters and image treatments
